Body Donation and Organ Donation

Perceived as similar humanitarian gestures, they are two VERY different procedures.

As of this writing, many facilities are not accepting full body donations as they have an overabundance.

However, we may help you with ORGAN DONATION, a process that, if your loved one is accepted, can help dozens of people within a few days.  Mid-America Transplant Services returns your loved one to our care usually within a 24 hour period so they can be prepared for visitation.

Special recognition of your loved one is offered in the form of pins and bracelets for family members and an organ donor medallion that many families choose to place on their headstone.

The ultimate decision of organ donation rests with the survivors, and they must be prepared to, within a few hours of death, commit to a lengthy phone interview about your loved one’s medical history to assure the deceased is a viable candidate.  Time is of the essence at that point.

As to who qualifies, medical professionals at our area hospitals are trained to determine if the deceased is a candidate.  At that point they will approach the family to see if they would consider organ donation.
