Arlie F. Calhoun

Arlie F. Calhoun, 76 of Murphysboro died at 4:45am Thursday, September 17, 2009. Arlie was born in Cobden, IL., July 3, 1933 a son to the late Charles and Ressie (Sweet) Calhoun. He married Gloria Reeves August 3, 1981 at the First Presbyterian Church in Murphysboro, Gloria survives of rural Murphysboro. Arlie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Murphysboro, he was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Germany during the Korean Conflict, he was a member of Paul Stout Post 127 American Legion of Murphysboro the National Rifle Association, and was retired from the I.C.G. Railroad. Funeral services will be at 11am Monday, September, 21, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Murphysboro with Rev. Charles Walden of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park near Murphysboro with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 127,and V.F.W. Post 7190, both of Murphysboro, V.F.W. Post 2605 of Carbondale and the Jackson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 69. Visitation will be from 5 to 8pm on Sunday at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro and from 9am until the hour of services on Monday at the church. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home or church. Survivors include his wife; Gloria Calhoun of Murphysboro, one daughter and son- in- law; Vicki and Donald Dale of DuQuoin, IL., two sons and one daughter-in-law; Scott and Pat Calhoun of Knoxville, TN., and Brock Calhoun and friend Lori of Murphysboro, two step-daughters and their husbands; Cynthia and Tim Perry of Murphysboro and Christy and Tom Guy of Campbell Hill, IL. two brothers and sisters-in-law; Harold and Shirley Calhoun of Carterville, IL., and Wayne and Mary Calhoun of Marion, IL., one sister and brother-in-law; Marilyn and Leon May of Sparta, IL., five grandchildren; Amy and Drew Stephens, Jodi, Christopher, and Kyle Calhoun, five step-grandchildren; Douglas Jarrett, Colleen and Levi Guy, Beth and Zachary Dale, one step-great grandchild; James Dale, and many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son; Arlie Dean Calhoun, and one sister; Dorothy Tripp. Arlie's family also wanted to recognize and give special thanks to Dr. Thomas Kupferer and his staff, all their wonderful neighbors, friends, church family at First Presbyterian Church and Arlie's coffee buddies.
