Claudine Allard Bradley

Claudine Allard Bradley, 91 of Winchester, IL. and formerly of Springfield, IL. and Vergennes departed earthly life and joined her lord on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 in Winchester, IL. Claudine was born in Vergennes on August 14, 1924 a daughter to the late William Claude and Bessie Day (Allard) Bradley. Claudine was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Vergennes. She was employed in her early life at the family business; Bradley’s Nationwide Store in Vergennes until the death of her parents. She then worked for the State of Illinois, Department of Public Aid as a Policy Writer in Springfield, Illinois where she lived for many years and there retired from her profession. Claudine loved the time she spent at the “Store” in Vergennes during her early life. She spoke often of the people and personalities of the community. In her youth she enjoyed sports from marbles at the Mill to baseball. In her adult life she enjoyed playing golf and was known in the Springfield area as an accomplished player. In her retirement she played musical instruments with her sister Naoma at Folk Festivals and historical gatherings. They enjoyed wearing period clothing and performing for the crowds whether they were on stage or just set-up under a shade tree in the park. They performed with dulcimers, autoharps, zithers and an assortment of early American musical instruments. Claudine also enjoyed collecting these period instruments. Claudine loved her pets. She had pets throughout her life, dogs, cats and birds especially her childhood boston terrier, “Teddy”. Funeral services will be at 11am on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro; Rev. In-sook Hwang of the Grace United Methodist Church in Carbondale will officiate. Burial will be in Parrish Cemetery near Vergennes. Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Crawshaw Funeral Home and until the hour of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the Parrish Cemetery Association and will be accepted at the funeral home. Claudine is survived by one nephew; Kevin Bradley Williams, and his wife Robin of DeSoto, IL., one grand-niece; Erin of Brighton, IL., one grand-nephew; Denton of Hillsdale, Michigan and a dear friend and co-worker, Helen Dowson of Bluffs, Il.. Claudine was preceded in death by her parents Claude and Bess Bradley, and by her sister; Naoma (Bradley) Williams and Naoma’s husband Archie Williams, and by her niece; Rita Diane Williams. Claudine also is preceded in death by her dear friend; Nancy Stoops of Springfield (formerly of Fairfield, Iowa).
