Frank K. Voorhees, Sr.

Frank K. Voorhees, Sr., 96, of Murphysboro, Illinois, passed away at 5:55 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2011, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, Illinois. Frank was born May 4, 1915, in Pomona, Illinois, to Charles Voorhees and Olive (Grissom) Voorhees. In the 1940's, Frank worked as a mechanic at Hudson's Car Dealership. In the 1950's, he became partners with Everett Brown, and they owned and operated Southern Manufacturing. Then in the 1960's to his retirement in 1980, he was the owner and operator of Voorhees Aluminum Products. Mr. Voorhees was a member and founding elder of Victory Christian Fellowship in Murphysboro. He was also a musician and loved to play the violin. He also enjoyed gardening, and took his garden vegetables to the nursing home where he shared them with the elderly. He was a very wise man and loved to read his bible. He loved his family, and loved being around them. Frank married Geraldine Dobbs on January 17, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri, and she preceded him in death on June 18, 1984. Survivors include 2 sons Rev. Frank C. Voorhees and his wife Bonnie Voorhees of Murphysboro, and Dr. Craig Michael Voorhees and his wife Cathy Voorhees of St. Louis, Missouri; two daughters in law, Carol Voorhees of Pinckneyville, Illinois, and Jamie Voorhees of West Frankfort, Illinois; eight grandchildren Theresa L. Voorhees Blankenship and her husband Gib Blankenship of Murphysboro, Steve M. Voorhees and his wife Crystal Voorhees of Murphysboro, Leslie K. Voorhees Stiegman and her husband Shane Stiegman of Nashville, Illinois, Christi L. Voorhees Goforth and her husband Todd Goforth of West Frankfort, Richard L. Voorhees, Jr. of West Frankfort, Jena Voorhees Timp and her husband Andrew Timp of West Plains, Missouri, Andria Voorhees Barbiera and her husband Joe Barbiera of Fenton, Missouri, and Nathan Voorhees and his wife Lindsey Voorhees of Lake St. Louis, Missouri; thirteen great grandchildren Garrett R. Blankenship and his wife Gina Blankenship, Britney Voorhees, Alyssa Blankenship Tellor and her husband John Tellor, Emily Voorhees, Brock Blankenship, Jordan Stiegman, Ryan Stiegman, Olivia Timp, Drew Timp, Ruby Timp, Isabella Barbiera, Sophia Barbiera, and Josephine Barbiera; one great great granddaughter Adelynn Blankenship; and special niece Donna Shuecraft and her husband Al Shuecraft of Kingsport, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by two sons James Leon and Richard Lynn Voorhees, one grandson Brian Voorhees, two brothers Carl and Ralph Voorhees, and his parents. The family would like to thank the Nursing Staff and Carbondale Memorial Hospital for being so nice to the family.
