Lowell Q. Heller

Lowell Quin Heller was born in rural Fulton County, IL on September 27, 1922 to Lauran Sowers Heller and Nina Ellen Quin. He married Ada Ellen Logan on February 24,1944. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater in 1944 and 1945, where he was lead navigation for a B-24 bomber wing. He returned to Ada and son Jim and farmed in Fulton and Knox County, raising a son Ed and daughters Kathy and Julie. In August 1961 Lowell and Ada moved their family and farm to Jackson County, Illinois and returned to college as full time undergraduate students at SIU Carbondale. Lowell attained a BS in Vocational Agriculture and a MS in Ag Economics. Ada attained a BS in Elementary Education and an MS in Special Education. Lowell taught vocational agriculture, made loans for Farmers Home Administration and served nine years as Jackson County Supervisor of Assessments and for more than 30 years appraised and sold real estate. He died August 17, 2019, as he lived, quietly and determined to do right in all things. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lyle, and sisters Chella, Jean Sprecher, and Joyce Bee Heller. He is survived by Ada, his bride of 75 years, and their children, James Lowell Heller (Sherry) DeSoto, Illinois, Edward Joe Heller (Joyce) of Murphysboro, Illinois, Kathy McBride (James) of Scottsdale, AZ, Julie Heller Hoffman (Dennis) of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and his sister, Annetta Cowser (Roger), of Laura, IL. Lowell was a lifetime member of Illinois Farm Bureau, American Legion Post #127 and National Education Association. He was a 58 year member of United Methodist Church, Murphysboro IL. Visitation will be at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro on Friday, August 23, 2019, from 5-8 pm and from Noon to the hour of services on Saturday at the Murphysboro United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at the Murphysboro United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at 1 pm. Memorials may be made to the Murphysboro United Methodist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home and the church. Ride Hard, Ride Fast! Sail When You Can.
