Roland H. Voss

Roland H. Voss, 94 of Murphysboro passed away at 11:55am on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at his home in Murphysboro. Roland was born June 7, 1917 in Horse Prairie, IL., a son to the late Gustav and Dorothea (Rehmer) Voss. He was united in marriage to Luella S. Spier in Baldwin, IL., on September 3, 1939; Luella preceded him in death on August 28, 2008. Mr. Voss was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Murphysboro. He was employed by the Gulf Mobile & Ohio Railroad for 40 years and retired in 1977 as a track supervisor for the Illinois Central Gulf (I.C.G.) Railroad. After his retirement he worked for Voss Heating and Air Conditioning for 18 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in W.W.II aboard L.S.T. #34. He was a member of the Lutheran Layman League, the Immanuel Lutheran Senior Club, the Immanuel Lutheran Adult Bible Class, the American Legion Paul Stout Post 127 and the V.F.W. Post 7190 all in Murphysboro. Funeral Services will be at 1pm on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro, Rev. Theodore Mayes will officiate. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Baldwin, IL. with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Paul Stout Post 127, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7190 both in Murphysboro, V.F.W. Post 2605 in Carbondale and the Jackson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 69. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10am until the hour of services at the funeral home. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or School and will be accepted at the funeral home. Survivors include one daughter; Arlou Hartman of Murphysboro, one son and daughter-in-law; John R. and Carol Voss of Murphysboro, eight grandchildren; Kimberly (Bryan) Cramer of Murphysboro, Matthew (Linda) Whittenberg of Murray KY., Paula (Scott) Maloney of Murphysboro, Keith (Stephanie) Voss of Murphysboro, Pam Martin of West Frankfort, Julie Sellers of Fenton, MO., Dana (Anthony) Batson of Murphysboro, and Neil (Angie) Voss of Murphysboro, 15 great grandchildren; Amanda Cramer, Tony Cramer, Marisa Whittenberg, Tabitha Jones, Meagan Maloney, Mitchell Maloney, Melanie Voss, Carter Voss, Memphis Sellers, Cassidy Sellers, Sydney Sellers, Molly Batson, Kelly Batson, John David Voss, and Madison Voss, three great-great grandchildren; Isaac Jones, Nevaeh Jones and Trey Jones. In addition to his parents and wife he was also preceded in death by three sisters; Laura Junge, Norma Sauer, and Eunice Rosenberg, and two brothers; Clarence and Lester Voss.
