Sheryl Hinchcliff

Shery Hinchcliff, 75 years old, passed away at 9:15 am on Sunday July 20, 2020, in Portland, OR with her 3 daughters by her side. Sheryl was born in Chicago Illinois on July 4th, 1945 to Leonard and Louise Horecker (Pevsner). She married Bill Hinchcliff, Jr. on June 12th, 1964 and they shared 52 years of marriage before Bill passed away in 2016. Sheryl moved to Portland Oregon in 2017 to be closer to family and was beloved by the caring staff at Revere Court Memory Care facility. Sheryl was an entrepreneur and, with husband Bill, owned a grocery store, The Southern Quick Shop, on Illinois Avenue in downtown Carbondale, and a Radio Shack franchise in Anna, Illinois. She was a successful Massage Therapist with a thriving private practice and was deeply fulfilled by the opportunity to help people feel better. She was a lifelong student and loved to share her knowledge with all. She taught massage classes, grew herbs for healing, had a vibrant vegetable garden and her yard was an oasis filled with flower beds, fruit trees, birds, and visiting neighbor cats and dogs. She loved all animals, especially dogs, and counted her dogs Lucy Belle and Sadie Jane among her children along with her cat, Daisy Mae. Sheryl lived in Spring Arbor for 40 years in a house she and Bill built. She cherished her neighbors’ friendship. Her family is eternally grateful for the kind and generous support they gave to Sheryl throughout her life and especially during her illness. Sheryl is survived by her 3 daughters, Leah Hinchcliff (Nancy Breaux) of Portland OR, Laurie Stoll (Richard) of Bolingbrook IL, and Lynda Lentini (Steve) of Plainfield Il; Sisters Leslie Hankinson (Tom), Beth Dotson (Thomas), Julie Horecker , and Leni Pender (Abe). She was the proud, loving grandmother to 5 amazing grandkids, Josh Stoll, Emily Stoll, Hannah Stoll, Braden Lentini and Dominic Lentini. She was delighted to have 9 nieces and nephews and cherished her many friends in Carbondale and beyond. She was an animal lover, gardener, healer, loyal friend, and her family was her joy. Funeral services will be conducted at Crain Pleasant Grove Murdale Funeral Home on Saturday, August 8th at 12:00 pm. Visitation will take place on Saturday at 10:00 am until the hour of the service. Please note that Covid guidelines will be strictly followed. A live stream will be available for those who wish to participate remotely, details TBA on the Crain website.
