Catherine Helena Sullivan

Catherine Helena Rose Sullivan, age 97, of Murphysboro, passed away at 6:35 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009, at the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County in Murphysboro, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, at Pettett Funeral Home with Troy Humphrey officiating and burial at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday until the hour of services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Berean Christian Church in Murphysboro. Catherine was born on August 15, 1911, in Gibson County, Indiana, to Frank Forrest Rose and Lily (Ebert Schnautz Rose. She started working at her dad's restaurant in Gorham, then she worked for the Ordinance Plant during World War II, and went to work for Montgomery Ward as a book keeper. Then she started working as a seamstress at the overall factory and later went to work at Cal Crest, from where she retired. While working at Cal Crest, she had been the past president of the union. Mrs. Sullivan was a charter member of the Berean Christian Church in Murphysboro and a member of the V.F.W. Post # 7190 Ladies Auxiliary. She had been a member of the Carbon Lake Club for over 20 years. Odell Dewey Cook was her first husband and they had one daughter Sandra Kay Baskin of Murphysboro. Catherine later married Thomas E. Grider, who passed away in 1966, and then she married Charles L. Sullivan in July of 1972, in Murphysboro, and he preceded her in death on November 15, 2001. Two step sons survive Charles Patrick Sullivan and his wife Glenda Sullivan of Murphysboro and Robert Westbrook of Carbondale; one step daughter Charlene Sullivan of Illinois; three grandchildren Karma L. (Kenny) Falkenbury of Swansea, Kimberly K. Baskin and her partner Terri Street of Murphysboro, and Jim Burke of Cape Girardeau, MO; one great granddaughter Shelby Jo Rains of Swansea; many nieces and nephews including Sherry McClure and her husband David McClure, Catherine Sue Adams and her husband Richard Adams, Larry Tincher and his wife Georgia Tincher, Ben Rose and his wife Sharon Rose, Forrest Lenn Rose and his wife Gloria Rose, Mac Lageose and his wife Sandy Lageose, Monica Coleman, Patty Lageose, and Michael Lageose and his wife Valerie Lageose; and two nieces by marriage Camilla Rose and Mona Schnautz; She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Ted Rose and Fred Schnautz, Sr., and three sisters Louise Lageose, Ethel Tincher and Valadene Rose. "Katie will be so sadly missed by her family! She was loved by all who knew her!"
