Clifford "Cliff" R. Grosvenor

Clifford "Cliff" R. Grosvenor, 87, of Murphysboro, passed away at 6:50 a.m. Sunday, June 15, 2014, at the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County in Murphysboro. Clifford was born on January 14, 1927, in Cora City, Illinois, to Howard Grosvenor and Anna Lee (Higgerson) Grosvenor. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Cliff had retired from the SIU Physical Plant and he was a plumber and pipefitter, belonging to Local # 160. Mr. Grosvenor was a very active member of the Church of the Nazarene in Murphysboro, where he served on the church board and was the former Sunday School Superintendent. He, also, served both the Illinois District Church Advisory Board and the Illinois School Board. On April 11, 1991, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the church. It is the highest award the a layman could receive at that time. He loved the Lord and the church. Cliff married Barbara Loy on August 23, 1947, at the Church of the Nazarene in Murphysboro, and she survives. Other survivors include two children and their spouses Jeff and Sheila Grosvenor of Palm Bay, FL and Jennifer and Keith Ridings of Murphysboro; five grandchildren Robert Grosvenor of Kissimmee, FL, Erin Grosvenor of Nashville, TN, Jeremy Ridings and wife Hollie Ridings, James Ridings and his wife Sheena Ridings, and Jodi (Ridings) Bradley and her husband "Gee" Bradley, all of Murphysboro: eight great grandchildren Gavin, Logan, Blake, Owen, Xoe, and Paige Ridings, Hayden Bradley and Lyric Bradley; two sisters Dorothy Strobl and Roxie Ward, both of Murphysboro; one brother in law James P. Loy and one sister in law and her husband Nancy and Don Siefert, all of Murphysboro; one living uncle and his wife Joseph and Ilene Higgerson and one living aunt Delia Easton; and many cousins and friends. Preceded in death by one brother Raymond (Marie) Grosvenor and their son Mike Grosvenor, one sister Jewel (Fritz) Dryer, three brothers in law Jack Ward, Al Strobl and Jack Loy, and two sister in laws Beverly Loy and Patricia Loy and his parents. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Jim Frye officiating and burial at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries or the Church of the Nazarene.
