E Joanne Cross

E. Joanne Cross, 89 of Murphysboro, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2020 at her home. She was born February 1, 1931 to Carl A. and Ethel (Hiller) Parrish. Joanne married Norman C. Cross on January 6, 1956 in Carbondale. He preceded her on July 7, 1987. She had attended Monticello Women’s College in Godfrey and later took courses at SIU-Carbondale. She held many positions in office management including secretarial in various law firms in Alton and Carbondale. She had also been an editorial clerk for the Southern Illinois Newspaper. Joanne enjoyed being involved with the Stage Company and making costumes for the plays. She also made costumes for school plays when her children were involved. She loved to sew. She received her real estate license and started a whole new career. She became involved with the John A. Logan Museum in 1987 until she retired in 2019 due to her health. She is survived by her three daughters, Martha Slaybaugh of Smyrna, TN; Norma “Sam” Thies and Melissa (JD) Reiman, both of Murphysboro; five granddaughters, Jessica (Ben) Kranawetter; Jamie Reiman; Allison (John) Harris; Jennifer (Kris) Cianci and Brooke Cross; three grandsons, Adam (Franny) Rogers; Steven McNeil and Chase Cross; great-granddaughters, Savannah Ford; Haley Kranawetter; Audryna Harris; Elayna Harris; Arabella Cianci; Giselle Cianci; Airyana Caves; Emma Rogers; Carley Gale and Amiryam Pearl Harris, to arrive in May; great-grandsons, Isaac Kranawetter; Mason Kranawetter; Ethan Kranawetter, Korbyn Gale and Keegan Cianci; her beloved furbaby, Nosey; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and a son, Carl N. Cross, who is waiting at Heavens gates for her. The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date. The family would like to thank Holly Gates for her beloved support and kindness throughout this difficult time. Mom was so grateful for your compassion and for you respecting her choices. Memorials can be made to John A. Logan Museum, 1613 Edith St., Murphysboro, IL 62966. Mom was a well rounded, well educated woman who taught her children alot about life. Life isn’t always fair, you just have to make it on what you have and make the best of it. She is at peace now, no more pain, no more struggles.
