Forrest William Gore

Our dad, Forrest William Gore, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Cape Girardeau, MO on January 21, 2017. He was born on July 8, 1922 in Olmsted, IL, the son of Don C. and Pearl (Basse) Gore. He married Dolores Shumaker on July 28, 1941 in Mississippi County, Missouri. For many years, he owned and operated Gore Store in Olmsted, Illinois. Later, he joined the Veterans Administration and retired as Superintendent of Springfield National Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri. We are thankful that Dad was active to the day he passed away; the evening before he was reading the news on his computer and checking the stock market. Dad was a lifelong learner and graduated with honors from Drury College in Springfield, MO in 1980. He was always available to us when needed and loved his family dearly. He taught us by example: do for others and advocate for those in need. He was a veteran of WWII who served in the Infantry as a rifleman and was in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), the Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Bronze Star Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, was wounded three times and awarded the Purple Heart Medal and two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. Forrest is survived by 1 brother, Calvin Gore of Swansea, IL; 1 son, Kenneth (Jennifer) Gore of Mexico, MO; 2 daughters, Beverly Stott of Cape Girardeau, MO and Janice (Frank) Cappelletti of O’Fallon, IL; 12 Grandchildren: Bradley (Samantha) Gore of Branson, MO; Kendra Gore of Branson, MO; Kylah Gore and Gabe Marley of Mexico, MO; Bryan (Jennifer) Cappelletti of Grants Pass, OR; Drs. Dorrie (Trevor) Tredway, O’Fallon, IL; Lance ( Elizabeth) Stott of Austin, TX; Dr. Tonia Stott (Janette Bell) of Chandler, AZ; Justin Stott (Vanessa) of Cape Girardeau, MO; Aaron Stott of Arcata, CA; Ryan (Rachel) Stott of Cedar Hill, MO; and Wendy Stott (Andy Walling) of Milwaukee, WI; 12 Great Grandchildren: Jack and Allie Tredway, Sage Stott, Evelyn Stott, Sariah Stott, Stewart Stott, Annika Stott, Kylyn Stott, Thomas Allen, Jordan Bell, Austin Bell and Roslyn Stott; 1 niece and 2 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dr. Dolores Gore; son-in-law, Dr. Gerald Stott; brothers Don L. Gore and Carlos Gore. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of service Friday, January 27, 2017 at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Funeral services for Forrest William Gore will be held at 10:30 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Chris Clifton officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Mound City National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri or the Salvation Army. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
