Mary A. Cook

On March 8, 2013, at 5:12 p.m., Mary A. Cook, 77, of Murphysboro, Illinois, received her angel wings when she slipped quietly from this world with her loving children at her side. Mary was born on September 5, 1935, in DuQuoin, Illinois, to the late Zeno "Buck" Robinson and Mary Rebecca (Neville) Robinson. Her children were her pride and joy, she enjoyed being a mother and was very involved with all her children's lives. She is survived by five daughters Rosemary Cornell, Barbara Downey and Billy Kooner, Patricia Lawhorn and Ginger Mason, all of Murphysboro, and Mary Miller and Kenny Sanders of Mayfield, Kentucky; three sons Robert Robinson, Cliff Johnson and his wife Angi Johnson, and Paul Johnson and his wife Betsy Johnson, all of Murphysboro; She loved being a grandmother and her grandchildren were the lights of her life and brought her great joy. Surviving grandchildren Shannon Happold and his wife Vicki Happold, Jeremy Happold and his wife Beth Happold, Amanda Miller and Joey Allen, Kenneth Ellis and Heather Chapman, Seth Buschschulte, Michael Lawhorn and Jolene Carraker, Casey Crow, Jennifer Mason, Lincoln Mason, Paul Johnson, Savannah Johnson, and Cody LeForge; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandson; three surviving sisters of DuQuoin, Norma Pence, Ruth Henson and Wilma Bowers, brothers Otis Robinson of Florida, Bobby Finney of Texas, Carl Finney of DuQuoin, and Charles Finney of Colorado; and a good friend Carol Hughes of Murphysboro. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Louis Johnson in 1981, one daughter Jessica Johnson, three brothers Ray Finney, Rick Finney, and George Finney, two sisters Loretta Combs and Wanda Wilce, and four son in laws Willie Buschschulte, Don Cornell, Terry Carrothers, and Lloyd Shingleton. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Gilbert officiating and burial at Old DuQuoin Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday until 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Activity Department at the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County in her memory. The family would like to thank the staff of the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County for the care given to Mary in the past eighteen months and for the concern and care shown to her family at this difficult time. Thanks to the VNA TIP Hospice for their support and compassion. Mom, we love you and will miss you every day of our lives, but we know you are taking care of baby Jessica now.
