IN MEMORY OF: Mary Edna (Vastine) Jones Serving Location: CRAIN FUNERAL HOME – MURPHYSBORO 1421 Walnut Street, Murphysboro, Illinois Mary Edna (Vastine) Jones, 104, widow of Charles V. Jones, passed away peacefully at Manor Court in Carbondale, IL on February 21, 2026. She was born on March 30, 1921 in Murphysboro, IL to the late Millard and Lena (Ihle) Vastine. Mary Edna and her husband raised their family in her childhood home and remained there until she was 99 years old-a house filled with love, laughter and cherished memories. She raised six children there and created a lifetime of special memories. There were always large Sunday dinners, joyful birthday parties, and especially grand Christmas celebrations that brought everyone together. Her home was the heart of the family. There were always large family photos on the porch for Easter. Mary Edna had a love for Sweetheart Roses and the color purple. She was loved by all and lived her LONG life in strong Catholic faith. She found joy in cooking, baking cookies, camping adventures with family, embroidering, playing games and working crossword puzzles. Mary Edna was a dear mother and mother-in-law of the late Charlene and Joe Renda; She was also a wonderful mother to Danny (Marsha) Jones, Rita (Connie) Sullivan, Mary Jean (Kevin) Buchman, Marty Jones and Allen Jones; loving grandmother of the late Lisa Renda and the late Andy Renda, Kelly (Wendy) Sullivan, Christy (Scott) Becker, Tiffany (Andrew) Wilson, Kyle (Penny) Buchman, and Nick (Jess) Buchman; loving great grandmother of Emma Sullivan, River Goette, Joshua, Kendall, and Luke Becker and Ethan Wilson; dear sister to the late Virginia (Vastine)(Homer) Stokes and Joe (Pat) Vastine; our dear aunt, cousin, and friend. Mary Edna's legacy lives on in the family she created, the Catholic faith she shared and the many memories she created with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews! Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 11:00 AM with celebrant Father Joel Seipp at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro. Visitation will be held prior to the mass from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow the service at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery. Crain Funeral Home in Murphysboro is in charge of arrangements.
