Paul David Womick

Paul David Womick, Jr., 62, of Anna, IL, passed away, Thursday, August 13, 2015 at his home. Paul was born April 5, 1953 in Anna, IL to Paul & Mary (Verble) Womick Sr. He graduated from Anna-Jonesboro High School in 1971. On April 10, 1976 he married Darla (Haymaker) Womick. Paul was employed at Anna School District #37 as the Transportation Director, Chief Bus Driver, & Head of Maintenance for 32 years. Paul was in charge of testing the roads for safety for the entire school district's bus system during the winter months. He also really liked driving the bus for the JR Centre & working with all the wonderful staff there & at the schools. He was a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the Anna Fire Department for 14 years, an EMT & ambulance driver for Multi County Ambulance, & a dispatcher for the Anna Police Department. Paul was always there to help friends & the community with projects. He absolutely loved playing Santa Claus for the entire community, family, & friends. His generous spirit & strong work ethics helped him develop a highly respected reputation among the community. Paul took great pride in his work & only retired a few years prior to his passing. He loved to watch movies, fish, listen to country music, & collect knives. His favorite movies were Rambo, Die Hard, & anything with Clint Eastwood & would laugh nonstop watching Open Season with his granddaughter Mayli. Paul could not resist eating watermelon any chance he got & he loved making his special pancakes for his girls. He was the happiest he could be when he spent time with his children & granddaughter. Paul, for 12 years, really enjoyed his service with the First Baptist Church & working with the Children’s Bus Ministry & the Children's Church. He drove the church bus for 2 youth mission trips to St. Petersburg, Florida & Ocean City, Maryland doing Vacation Bible School classes. He is a member of Anna First Baptist Church. Paul is survived by his wife, Darla; two daughters, Brianna Womick & Mary Beth Womick-Knight; granddaughter, Mayli Knight; his sisters, Nadine Adams & Sharon (Adams) Farris; brother, Dennis Womick; nephew, Chris Farris; great nephew, Bryson Farris & other family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Sr. & Mary Womick. A special thank you to the Hospice of Southern Illinois for their loving care & support. Also thank you to Crain Funeral Home for all of the arrangements. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Crain Funeral Home in Anna/Jonesboro. Funeral services for Paul will be Monday, August 17, 2015 at 4:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Les Sinks officiating. Interment will follow at Jonesboro Cemetery.
