IN MEMORY OF: Reid Allen Lirely Serving Location: CRAIN PLEASANT GROVE-MURDALE FUNERAL HOME 31 Memorial Drive, Murphysboro, Illinois Reid Allen Lirely, 53, peacefully passed after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 9:00 am, with his loving mother, special friend Laura Chandler, and his dear friend Sue by his side. He was born on March 21, 1972, in Murphysboro, to Charles Edward Lirely and Judith Held Lirely. He graduated from Murphysboro High School as valedictorian of his class. He was a standout on the varsity basketball team and enjoyed playing baseball, football and running track as well. He graduated with a degree in International Studies from California State University in Long Beach. The life of Reid was exemplified by kindness, a good sense of humor, and a passion for music. After starting drum lessons at age 10, it became apparent to everyone that this would become one of his greatest gifts. He played in various bands throughout his life, making many friends along the way. Later in life, his love for music translated into learning how to play keyboard and collecting antique organs. Reid enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, but his greatest love was for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In his last days, he regularly talked about what a blessed life he had and how he was looking forward to eternity with the Lord. Reid is survived by his mother, Judy Lirely; sister, Jill Sweatman (Jim); nephew, Zach Sweatman (Karen); great niece, Maddie; niece, Rebecca Fillyaw (Michael); great niece, Lily; and many cousins and close friends. He was preceded in death by his dad, Ed Lirely; twin sisters, Amy and Allison; grandparents, Bill and Jeanette Held; grandparents, Ivan and Daisy Lirely; his Uncle Bill Held; and his Uncle and Aunt, Ivan and Kay Lirely. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Crain Pleasant Grove – Murdale Funeral Home. Visitation will be held the day of the service from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
