Ruth A. Wright

Ruth A. Wright, 87, of Murphysboro, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at the Manor Court of Carbondale. Ruth was born on July 24, 1928, in Jacob, Illinois, to John Gannon and Acel (Whelchel) Gannon. Before she was married, she was a Licensed Practical Nurse at St. Andrew's Hospital in Murphysboro. She married Thomas "Tommy" Wright on December 3, 1949. After marrying Tommy, she was a full time wife, mother and homemaker. Tommy preceded her in death on April 17, 1987, and then Ruth went to work privately as a home health caregiver. Mrs. Wright was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro, a member of the St. Andrew Altar Society, a member of the V.F.W. Post # 7190 Ladies Auxiliary, and the American Legion Post # 127 Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by four children Thomas Michael Wright and his wife Pat Wright of Murphysboro, Dennis Wright of Carbondale, Julie Gale and her husband Albert Gale and Tina Ewbank and her husband Michael Ewbank, all of Murphysboro; six grandchildren Cameron (Elissa) Wright, Jennifer (Mark) Sauerbrunn, Kimberly (Brian) Meade, Christopher (Janna) Wright, Erin (Tyler) Camfield, and Ashley Gale and her boyfriend Greg Rowald; four step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren Braxton, Devyn, and Bria Wright, Keatton Edwards, Jack and Emma Camfield, Brock Rowald, and Madison Meade; five step great grandchildren; one sister in law Alice Gannon of Belleville; and many nieces and nephews including Marilyn Gannon of Murphysboro, and Barbara Roof of Palm City, FL. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter and her husband LeRae and Greg Edwards, one daughter in law, five brothers and three sisters and their spouses Martin (Olivia) Gannon, Gladys (Rudy) Oetjen, John (Mary) Gannon, Thomas (Sylveria) Gannon, Lucille (Pete) Galbraith, Josephine (Max) Treece, Sylvester Gannon in infancy, and James Gannon. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at St. Andrew Catholic Church and burial at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Pettett Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
