Thelma Blumenstock

Thelma Blumenstock, age 86, of DeSoto, passed away at 11:21 a.m. Thursday, November 12, 2020 surrounded by her loving family at her residence in DeSoto. Her lord and savior said, welcome home my good and faithful servant. She was born on December 26, 1933, in Murphysboro, Illinois, to Lowell White and Lily Mae (Wisely) White. Thelma was a housewife before opening Thelma's Cafe in DeSoto for many years. She was known for her coconut cream pie and she aired on WSIL TV news with her recipe. She later worked in De Soto until her grandkids came along. She babysat for all her grandchildren and many of her great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends. Mrs. Blumenstock was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of DeSoto and the DeSoto Food Pantry. She had been a quilter for many years. She was an avid sports lover. She dedicated countless hours to the concession stand and DeSoto Homecoming Celebrations at the DeSoto City Park. She was named the Senior Citizen of the year. Several people considered her to be a "Pillar of the Community". Thelma and Howard were married in Kentucky on March 16, 1950. This year they celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary. Thelma is survived by her husband, Howard Blumenstock, four children David (Phyllis) Blumenstock, Dorris (Frank) McKee, Ronald (Susan) Blumenstock, and Rhonda Blumenstock, all of DeSoto; eight grandchildren Anthony Blumenstock, Cody (Brittany) Blumenstock, Christy (Christopher) Bockler, Jason (Rachel) McKee, Jonathan McKee, Alicia (Rob) Lorenz, Kyle Blumenstock, and Alexandria Blumenstock; five great grandchildren Elizabeth Bockler, Joshua Bockler, Noah Lorenz, Genevieve Lorenz, and Addison Blumenstock; one brother and two sisters Calvin (Shirely) White and Ruth (Ed Jones) Bowlby, both of DeSoto, and Linda Cummins of Lockport, IL. She was preceded in death by two brothers James and Frank White, two sisters Sara Jane and Elaine Stewart, and her parents. Gravesite services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2020, at DeSoto Cemetery with Brother Joshua Wehrmeier officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday at the DeSoto Cemetery.
