Thurmon C. Compton

Thurman C. Compton, 72, of Murphysboro, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2020 at his residence in Murphysboro, Illinois. Thurman was born on August 5, 1948, in Grundy, Virginia, to Lawrence A. Compton and Mary M. (Meadows) Compton. He had worked as a coal miner and he had also owned his own Construction Company. Mr. Compton was a member of the Jehovah Witness in Murphysboro. Thurman married Mary (Ford) Compton on July 3, 1973, in Murphysboro, Illinois, and she survives. He is survived by one son and daughter in law Andrew Joe and Tammy Sue Compton of Beaver Dam, KY; one step daughter Tami Lynette Compton of West Frankfort, IL; He was preceded in death by one son Paul Bryan Compton and one step son Claude Michael Worthen; He is survived by eleven grandchildren-Kami Sue Compton, Madison C. Compton, Isaac Compton, Moriah Compton, Lyndsy Kendall, Victoria Brooke Worthen, Sara Lynn Worthen, Jordan Luecking, Chad Luecking, Lacie Hasty, and Angeline Hasty; seventeen great grandchildren; eleven brothers and sisters Ruby Popejoy of Murphysboro, Eula Mae Puttman of Bluefield, VA, Joyce McGhee of Richlands, VA, Roy Compton of Ava, Troy Compton of Murphysboro, Charlie Compton and Cecil Compton of Ava, and Anne Jo Worthen of Murphysboro, Deborah Kay Burris of South Port, NC, Rachel Ball of Murphysboro, and Pam Burris of Elora, TN; He was preceded in death by one sister Nadine Huffman, and his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. There will be a Memorial Service held at 4 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2020, on Zoom.
