Rev. Dr. Carl F. Dunker

November 27, 1929 - March 7, 2022

Rev. Dr. Carl F. Dunker, age 92, of Asheboro, North Carolina, formerly of Cairo, passed away peacefully at his home on March 7, 2022. Dr. Dunker was born on November 27, 1929 in Cairo the son of Harry Joseph and Lavonia Dunker. He was a 1947 graduate of Cairo High School. He was a 1953 graduate of Greenville University and a 1956 graduate of Butler University, earning his MA in 1957. In 1990, he earned his PhD from International Bible College and continued his graduate work at Duke Divinity School and UNC-G. Carl preached his first sermon at Tigert Memorial United Methodist Church in 1948. He served at multiple churches in Illinois and North Carolina through six decades until retiring in 1995 to Asheboro. After retiring, he continued to be active in the community YMCA, Senior Games, articles in Randolph Guide, part-time ministry to local churches and letters of ministry and updates to family and friends, the last being December 2021. Carl is survived by his children, David Dunker of Asheboro, Barbara (Charles) Roe of Silver Spring, MD, Steven (Gwyn) Dunker of New Bern; grandchildren, Mark (Angie) Dunker of Greensboro, Jason (Kisha) Dunker of Carolina Beach, Sarah Dunker of New Bern; great-grandchildren, Austin, Meredith, Peyton; brothers, Jack Dunker of Vienna, Wilbur (Peggy) Dunker of Paducah; sisters, Kay (Nick) Niestrath, Mary Jane (Randy) Edmonds of Anna, Judy Wadley of Mounds; special friend, Vickie Teague of Asheboro. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Joseph and Lavonia Dunker; wife, Barbara Dunker; sister, Shirley Dunker and brother, Joe Kenneth Dunker. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Tigert Memorial United Methodist Church in Cairo with Rev. Doug Atkins officiating. Burial will follow the service in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203 and will be accepted at the Church. Crain Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
