IN MEMORY OF: Carla Attig Wood Serving Location: CRAIN FUNERAL HOME – MURPHYSBORO 1421 Walnut Street, Murphysboro, Illinois Carla Dawn Attig Wood, 69, died on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at home in Murphysboro. She was born on March 30, 1954 to Vincent DuWayne and Wylanna (Jones) Attig in Murphysboro. She was a 1972 graduate of MTHS. She retired from SIH after over 30 years of dedicated service. With her first husband, Terry Lilley, Sr., she had two children, Terry and Ami. She married Randy Wood in 1988, and he survives, of Murphysboro. Carla was the gentlest of souls and unfailingly generous with her time, love, and kindness. She was a woman of strong faith who loved her church and her church family. Carla was proud to have served as the church pianist from the age of 15 until just last year when her health prevented her from continuing. She was a gifted pianist and found special joy in worshipping through music. Carla’s deepest love was for her family. A devoted daughter, she sacrificed much to care for her parents, with whom she is now joyfully reunited. Carla was the most dedicated of mothers, and she loved her children beyond description. Her children and two granddaughters were the light of her life, and she has instilled in them a legacy of love and caregiving that will carry them for the rest of their days. To her family, Carla’s loss is unimaginable. Those left to mourn her passing are her husband Randy, son Terry (Hetti) Lilley of La Crosse, WI, daughter Ami Lilley-Plexico (Van) of Smithton, IL, granddaughters Madeleine Lilley of Murphysboro and Mira Plexico of Smithton, cherished big brother Dale (Cindy) Attig of Phoenix, Arizona, niece Stacie Attig of Phoenix, Arizona, as well as many treasured cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Wayne and Wylanna Attig, grandparents, Rev. Fred and Velva (Bishop) Attig, and James and Kate (Phemister) Jones, and niece, Kelli Jo Attig. The family wishes to thank the medical professionals at the Mayo Clinic in La Crosse, WI and Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis who cared for her with such compassion during her illness. In accordance with Carla’s wishes there will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date at the First Church of the Nazarene in Murphysboro. Memorials may be made to the Alzeheimer’s Association or Humane Society of Southern Illinois. Arrangements have been entrusted to Crain Funeral Home.
