Cheryl Irene Ellis

Cheryl Irene Ellis, age 74 of Vergennes, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022 in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. She was born October 30, 1947 in Chicago to George and Christine (Melson) Meadows. On June 12, 1969 she married Elmer Ellis. Together they shared almost 53 years of making wonderful memories. For many years Cheryl had worked at the Apple Tree Inn. She loved to sing at church and also enjoying doing karaoke. She was a member of the 1st Assembly of God Church in Murphysboro. Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Elmer of Vergennes; her children, Donald (Sherry) Ellis of Vergennes; Tammy (Dennis) Doty of Murphysboro; Kathy Ellis of Vergennes and Matthew (Kerrah) Ellis of Vergennes; grandchildren; Nicki; Zach; Briana; Morgan; Cody; Tyler; Trent; Zack; Riley; Chase and Matthew; great-grandchildren; Connor; Rayleigh; Brynlee; Cailynn and Braxton; two sisters, Debbie Hindman of Murphysboro and Alice Barber of IN; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Georgia Anna Fox; a grandson, Kyle Ellis and a great-granddaughter, Charlette Rae. Funeral Services for Cheryl Irene Ellis will be Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 11:00 am in Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home with Rev. Richy Pyatt and Rev. Dean Aiken officiating. Entombment will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 11, 2022 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of gratitude may be directed to the Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home to help offset funeral expenses.
