David Bennett Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

David Bennett, age 71, of Vergennes, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. at his home. David was born on September 22, 1950, in Anderson, Indiana, a son of Samuel George and Betty Jean (Kisker) Bennett. He married Wanda Wagley on December 27, 1988 and she survives. David proudly answered the call of his nation by serving in the United States Army. He first worked as a firefighter, but later worked for General Motors, having retired after over thirty years. After retirement, David worked as a substitute teacher. He enjoyed fishing, reading, mowing his grass, and especially painting. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Bennett of Vergennes; three children, Melvin (Jessica) Bennett, Candy Bennett-James and Dana Johnson; four grandchildren, Corey Johnson, Brandi Townsend, Tabby James and Alyssa Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Soren Johnson, Wyatt Bush and Jaidyn Bush; one brother, Melvin Bennett; as well as special cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dale Bennett. In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no services are being held. Crain Funeral Home in Murphysboro has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial donations may be made to Crain Funeral Home, 1421 Walnut Street, Murphysboro, Illinois 62966.
