Denver Mitchell Brewer

April 1, 1923 - March 16, 2022

Denver Mitchell Brewer, Sr., age 98, of Murphysboro, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at 2:20 a.m. in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center CLC in Marion. Denver was born on April 1, 1923 in Zeigler, Illinois, the son of Earl and Gladys (Korando) Brewer. He married Gertrude “Trudy” J. Blanc in 1946 and together they shared 48 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on May 5, 1994. Denver answered the call of his nation and proudly served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was stationed in England and was a transport pilot. After his years in the service, Denver lived in California co-owning a flying school. After moving to Ohio, he worked in the steel industry, and after moving back to Illinois, worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation and Dravo. Lastly, he served as the Assistant Tax Assessor to Lowell Heller for Jackson County until his retirement. Denver was an avid golfer, playing regularly until he was 94 years old. He was also an avid reader and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved to watch westerns and enjoyed fishing and bowling. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 7190, the American Legion Post 127, and St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Corrington and Ramona Riggio, both of Murphysboro; one son, Brian (Andrea) Brewer of Paducah, Kentucky; a daughter-in-law, Tina Brewer of Clarksville, Tennessee; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Trudy Brewer; one son, Denver Mitchell “Butch” Brewer, Jr.; and his sister, Eileen Przychodzin. A private burial will be held in Hiller Cemetery in Murphysboro. Crain Funeral Home in Murphysboro has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Arthritis Foundation, or the Sallie Logan Public Library. Envelopes will be available and accepted at the funeral home.
