Donald Eugene Elliott

Donald Eugene Elliott, age 88, of Pinckneyville, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 6:21 a.m. in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Donald was born on January 14, 1933, in Old DuQuoin, the son of Floyd and Edith Elliott. He was united in marriage to Kay Crawshaw on June 3, 1953 at the United Methodist Church in Vergennes and she survives. He answered the call of his nation, proudly serving in the United States Navy. Donald worked for Consolidated Coal Company for over thirty-one years, working at the Consol #4 mine. He was a member of the Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504, the First United Methodist Church of Pinckneyville, and the Methodist Men. Donald was an avid squirrel and deer hunter and loved fishing. Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years, Kay Elliott of Pinckneyville; two sons, Brent Elliott of Pinckneyville and Brian Elliott (Sue Smith) of Barefoot Bay, Florida; two grandsons, Joshua Elliott (Sarah) of West Frankfort and Zachery Elliott (Addie) of Oakdale; one great-grandson, Donald Michael Elliott; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Emmetta (John) Shepard of Huntley, Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Imogene Rosenberger and Lula McDonald. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Pinckneyville on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Don Meeks officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro. Military rites will be accorded by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504 at the church, and by the United States Navy at the graveside. A time of visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church in Pinckneyville on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to First United Methodist Church or Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post #2504. Envelopes will be available and accepted at the church during the visitation hour. Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
