IN MEMORY OF: DONNA STOODLEY Serving Location: CRAIN PLEASANT GROVE-MURDALE FUNERAL HOME 31 Memorial Drive (Old Route 13), Murphysboro, Illinois Donna Stoodley, age 66 of Murphysboro, surrounded by loved ones, went to be with her heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 after a courageous fight against cancer. She was born October 20, 1956 to George “Joe” and Earldine (Kendall) Stoodley in Louisville, KY. Donna’s greatest joy in life was her nieces and nephews, sharing in their life experiences, and watching them grow. She had years of retail management service amongst K-Mart, Famous Barr, and retired from Macy’s in 2020. She loved John Denver, the Colorado Rocky Mountains, and traveling the country. She enjoyed playing bocce ball with friends and family. She joined a veteran companion on the inaugural Honor Flight of Southern Illinois, 2017. Donna’s passions included rescue dogs and veterans; she volunteered for This Able Veteran, and this last year she worked part-time for Extreme K-9. She is survived by her brothers, Steven (Keri) Stoodley of Makanda, IL and Jerry (Angela) Stoodley of Franklin, NC; nephews, Ryan (Bre) Stoodley of Marion, IL; Ethan Stoodley of Salisbury, NC; Logan (Jaylen) Stoodley of Severna Park, MD and Mason Stoodley of Franklin, NC; nieces, Nicole (Neil) Stoodley of Broomfield, CO; and Lauren (Robbie) Parnell of Murphysboro, IL; great-nephews and nieces, Madison, Kennedy and Reagan Stoodley, Jaxson Stoodley, Derrick and Kreyd Parnell, sweet baby girl; best friend, Cleta Shirley of Murphysboro, IL; the best four-legged friend, Ranger; other relatives and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her loving parents. A Celebration of Donna’s Life will be Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 1:00 pm in Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home with Rev. In-Sook Hwang officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the hour of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests, with gratitude, memorial contributions be made to This Able Veteran, 1714 Wolf Creek Road, Carbondale, IL, 62902 or Residential Hospice of Southern Illinois, 104 Airway Dr #1, Marion, IL 62959 and will be accepted at the funeral home. Donna knew no stranger; you were sure to leave as friends. She was the salt and light of the world.
