Doris Jean Ellis, age 76, of Murphysboro, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 11:50 p.m. in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Doris was born on July 5, 1945 in Herrin, a daughter of Marion Douglas and Gladys Mae (Doering) Parks. She married Freddie Lorene Ellis on August 13, 1964 and he preceded her in death on October 6, 2017. Doris was a breast cancer survivor. She was a homemaker and loved gardening and her livestock. She especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Ava Assembly of God. Survivors include her son, Ketih Ellis of Ava; two daughters, Melody Hill of Murphysboro and Lorna (Timothy) Edgar of Ava; two sisters, Dora Mae McCormick of Lockport, Illinois and Sheila Wece of West Frankfort; two brothers, Jess (Goldie) Parks of Fairfield and Billy (Phyllis) Parks of Thompsonville; four grandchildren, Amber, Ashly, Christopher and Jeremy; seven great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Phalin, Brylyn, Nevaeh, Nora Jean, Grayson and Nala; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert (Daisy) Parks; and one sister, Francis (Victor) Pearce. Funeral services will be held at Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home on Monday, December 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Steve Raglin officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home. Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
