Edward "Ed" Joseph Fluchel

December 29, 1942 - March 24, 2021

Edward “Ed” Joseph Fluchel Jr., 78, of Cape Girardeau, passed away at 11:37 am on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at his home. He was born on December 29, 1942 in St. Louis Missouri to Edward J. Fluchel Sr and Leona (Preis) Fluchel. Just before turning 21, Ed became the happy husband of Juliann Byrnes on November 30, 1963. They enjoyed the company of one another for many years. He worked for McDonnel Douglas, an American aerospace manufacturing corporation, as a machinist and maintenance man. Ed loved the outdoors and God, shaping him into an avid hunter and fisherman, as well as a reliable volunteer at the local food pantry, and a familiar face at St. Mary’s Church. His dedication to church also resulted in his membership as a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Juliann Byrnes of Cape Girardeau, sons; Joseph (Julie) Edward Fluchel of Marble Hill Missouri, Robert (Becky) Paul Fluchel of Glennon Missouri, Phillip (Jerie) Bryan Fluchel of Whitewater Missouri, daughter; Brenda (Kevin) Marie Zimmerman of Jackson Missouri, grandchildren; Aly, Loren, Eric, Natalie, David, Lyndsey and Kassie Fluchel, Brandi Crader, Zachary and Kodey Zimmerman, and 11 great grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Leona Fluchel and brother James Fluchel. Inurnment will take place at St Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Cape Girardeau at a later date.
