IN MEMORY OF: Janice Reneé Copeland Serving Location: CRAIN FUNERAL HOME – CAPE GIRARDEAU 829 North West End Boulevard, Cape Girardeau, Missouri Janice Reneé Copeland, 68, of Cape Girardeau, passed away in her home on October 3, 2024. Born in Salina, KS, August 29, 1956, to Orville L. Grim and Wanda R. Hopper. She graduated from Cape Central High School in 1974 and received her Nursing degree from Southeast Hospital College of Nursing in 1996. Jan worked as an emergency floor nurse for over 20 years at Southeast Hospital and Saint Francis Hospital. She was also an imaging and radiology tech, and home health care nurse. She retired as a Registered Nurse from Landmark Hospital in 2021. Jan was raised in a military environment alongside her older brother Jim and was exposed to different lifestyles in the town of Butzbach, Germany and to the small towns of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Eldorado, Arkansas, and St. Louis, Missouri. On her 11th birthday, she got a brother Jay as a present, and her status changed from a baby girl to older bossy sister always trying to keep him in line. Later (1973) she had her own son Jason and worked hard guiding them both along their life paths. Jan was an avid volunteer for many foundations. Her heart was focused heavily on animal rescues, humane societies, and in the Big Brother Big Sister program. She was always there to help, always providing an extra hand to her family and many friends. Her core value was to help others no matter where or what they needed. She caught the “Trout fishing bug” from her father at an early age and spent many happy hours and days pursuing that “big one”. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking them on adventures across Missouri and the US. She spent a lot of her time telling stories and spinning yarns on her experiences of life with her niece and great nephews. She was a VW bug nut sharing the love of air-cooled VWs (Things, bus’, and bugs) with her nephew Dustin and other family members. She will be deeply missed by all that she touched. She was survived by two brothers, James "Jim"(Martha) Grim of Parker, TX; Jay (Orville) Grim Jr. of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren Marissa (Leigh) Wilcut, and Alix (Justine) Copeland of Ellington, MO; one niece Miranda (Jack) Huskey of Cape Girardeau; Three nephews James Grim ( Jonathan ) of Dallas, Texas; Robert (Elizabeth) Grim of Dallas, TX; and Dustin Grim of Cape Girardeau. Four great grandchildren Maverick, Matland, Timber and Nova Wilcut, one great-niece, Amelia Grim, and four great-nephews, Jake Grim, Nathan, Noah, and Jack Huskey. She was proceeded in death by her parents and son, Jason Copeland. Services will be limited to family and close friends. The cremation of Janice Reneé Copeland has been personally handled by the staff of Crain Funeral home. Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements.
