Goodbread, Jr., 77, of Olive Branch, passed away peacefully with family surrounding him at his home on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. Born on September 27, 1947, in Gloversville, New York, to Kenneth L. Goodbread, Sr. and Shirley M. Joseph Goodbread, Ken lived a life full of rich experiences and deep connections. On March 24, 1979, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Crow. Together, they shared 45 years of memories, love, and family. Ken is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen; his sons, Scott (Sarah) Goodbread and Adam (Panyaporn Onsa) Goodbread; his daughter, Sonya (Allen) Pearman; and his cherished grandchildren, Wyatt (Kari), Eleora, Amelia, Gideon, Gwendolyn, Dustin (Kyleigh), Mason, Kelsey, Evin, Audrey, and Maddux, as well as his great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn. He also leaves behind his beloved sisters, Donna (Rick) Dumar and Paula (Myron) Tucker, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ken served proudly in the U.S. Air Force as a jet engine mechanic, sharing countless stories from his time in Vietnam and particularly during his station in Italy, a place that held a special place in his heart. He was co-owner of Create-A-Van in Imperial and later managed Poppy’s Parlor in Festus. In 1993, he and Kathleen became the proud owners and operators of Lost Acres Campground in Olive Branch. A retiree of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Ken carried with him the hard work ethic and camaraderie of his trade. Ken’s presence was felt deeply within his community. He served on the board and was actively involved with the Horseshoe Lake Chamber of Commerce and the Southernmost Illinois Tourism Bureau. He was a pastor and founding member of God’s House of Blessings in McClure, IL and was instrumental in its transition to what is now known as The Spark Ministries. Additionally, he was a proud member of the American Legion and VFW. His passion for serving others and giving back was evident in his many acts of charity and service. Despite his many professional and civic accomplishments, Ken’s greatest pride was in being a loving father and grandfather. Known for his strong faith and uplifting spirit, Ken instilled into those he loved to have a positive outlook, even in challenging times. His laughter—loud, infectious, and full of life—could be heard for miles. He never met a stranger and left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. His wisdom, encouragement, and warmth will continue to inspire his family and friends. Ken’s legacy is one of love, commitment, generosity, and an unwavering belief that life is meant to be enjoyed to the fullest. He taught those closest to him to help others, be kind to everyone, and that nothing is impossible with the right mindset. A memorial service will be held at Mound City National Cemetery at a later date. Cremation services have been entrusted to Crain Funeral Home. Crain Funeral Home in Tamms is in charge of arrangements.
