Margaret J. Greif Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Margaret J. Greif, 80, of Murphysboro passed away at 1:00am on Sunday, April 11, 2021, with her daughter by her side, in Carterville, IL. Margaret was born on March 10, 1941 in Franklin Township of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, a daughter to the late Paul W. and Adela (Blawat) Brunlinger. She was united in marriage to Joseph Greif on November 2, 1963 in Chicago, Joseph survives of Murphysboro. Margaret was of the Lutheran faith, where she volunteered a significant amount of her time, to both the school and church. She was employed as a bookkeeper and worked along-side her husband Joseph, for several businesses they owned and operated in Chicago, IL. Margaret also received her associate’s degree in liberal arts which she started at the age of 50; she had always wanted a college degree and was very proud of her accomplishments. Cremation has been accorded, a memorial will be held by her husband Joseph in summer to be announced by invitation. Survivors include her husband, Joseph Greif of Murphysboro, three sons Joseph, Thomas and Paul and daughter Ann-Margaret Greif. She is also survived by six grandchildren and six (soon to be eight) great-grandchildren. Siblings surviving are brothers Walter, Bill, and Raymond, sisters are Elizabeth, Martha and Wanda. Margaret was predeceased by her siblings Charlie, Robert, and Ann. Margaret was an avid reader who loved nature especially on her favorite place, Washington Island. She also loved gardening, music, the arts, travel, had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to dance. Her later interests included quilting and she made several beautiful handmade quilts. For those she loved, it was the little things that she did for others that meant the most and many will remember her by, especially her brunch when they were guests at her home. Margaret was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
