Mildred Marie Sheets

Mildred Marie Sheets, age 75, of Herrin, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 3:42 a.m. at her home. Marie was born on May 19, 1945 in Baldwin, Illinois to Cassius Sydney and Mildred Marie (Niemeyer) Courier. She married Leo Thomas Sheets on November 26, 1964. Throughout her career, Marie worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield and then for WPS until her retirement. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marie enjoyed mother-nature through bird watching and gardening and she was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Marie was of the Presbyterian faith. Survivors include her husband, Tom Sheets of Herrin; son, Timothy Sheets of East Peoria; daughter, Melinda (Michael) Mullins of Herrin and daughter, Stephanie Cline of Marion; grandchildren, Chelsea Sheets, Jacob Mullins, Lucas Mullins, and Nicholas Mullins; great-grandchildren, Madison Sheets and Lydia Sheets; special extended family, Karen and Scott Ewing; sisters, Virginia (Larry) Canter and Nelda Courier both of Red Bud; special cousins, Carolyn (Bob) Lieb and Marsha (Clem) Esker; best friend, Dorothy Bodnar of Vienna; numerous other cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her aunt, Ruby Niemeyer; two brothers, Harold Courier and Roger Courier; and one sister, Dorcella Wilkening. Funeral services for Marie Sheets will be at Crain Funeral Home – Egyptian Chapel in Energy on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Mark Goldman officiating. Entombment will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
