Norman H. Barnett Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

IN MEMORY OF: Norman H. Barnett Serving Location: CRAIN FUNERAL HOME – MURPHYSBORO 1421 Walnut Street, Murphysboro, Illinois Norman H. Barnett, age 99, of Murphysboro, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 11:56 a.m. at his home. Norman was born on November 28, 1922 in Hurst, a son of Julian and Stella (Shelton) Barnett. He married Ora Lee Jarrett on May 15, 1948 in Murphysboro and she preceded him in death on March 26, 1990 after nearly 42 years of marriage. He later married Ruth Sanders in DuQuoin, and she preceded him in death on December 15, 2008. Norman was a proud veteran, serving in the United States Navy. He worked for New Era, which later became Prairie Farms until his retirement. He attended Christ Community Church in Murphysboro and was a member of the Murphysboro V.F.W. Post #7190 and the Murphysboro American Legion Post #127. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Sikorski of Energy and Linda (Rick) Ellet of Desoto; three grandchildren, Angela Yearian of Desoto, Amber (Trevor) Weidman of Herrin and Nathan Sikorski of Cape Girardeau; four great-grandchildren, Clayton, Chance, Addison and Karter; two sisters, Mary Underwood and Inis Drake, both of Carbondale; and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Ora Lee Barnett and Ruth Barnett; three brothers, Cleadus Barnett, Harlan Barnett and Leslie Barnett; and one sister, Letha Johnson. Funeral services will be held at Crain Funeral Home, 1421 Walnut Street, Murphysboro, Illinois on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Rick McNeely officiating. Interment will follow in Murdale Gardens of Memory with military rites by the United States Navy and the Murphysboro American Legion Post #127. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service. Memorials may be made to Macular Degeneration Foundation, Inc. or American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home. Crain Funeral Home in Murphysboro has been entrusted with the arrangements.
