Oleta (Slusher) Brown Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

IN MEMORY OF: Oleta (Slusher) Brown Serving Location: CRAIN FUNERAL HOME – ULLIN 420 Ullin Avenue, Ullin, Illinois Oleta (Slusher) Brown, age 96 of Ullin, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. Oleta was born to Arthur and Flora Jessie (Lawson) Slusher on April 21, 1926. She was united in marriage to Norse (Dutch) Brown on January 7, 1945. He preceded her in death on September 14, 2001. Throughout her career, Oleta worked as a waitress at Glen’s in Cairo before transitioning to a position at Huffman Insurance Agency. After her retirement, she made food deliveries from Ullin Foods to Cache Valley Apartments delivering to “all the old people” who were younger than Oleta. In her spare time, she enjoyed flower gardening and ceramics. She was also an active member of First Baptist Church in Ullin. Survivors include: a daughter – Loretta Ozment (Craig Doctorman); a son – Mark (Crystal) Brown; Grandchildren – Chris (Chrissie) Ozment, Jesse Wallace, Brent Kesler, Trent (Lelah) Kesler, Tyler Brown, Beth (Jerald) Windings and Myndi (Randy) Duke; 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son – Mike Brown; a daughter – Connie Pair; a grandson – Dennis Sexton; 2 sisters – Shelby Forrestor and Eleanor Ledbetter; and one brother – Richard Slusher. A funeral service honoring the life of Oleta (Slusher) Brown will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022 at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin at 12:00 PM with Rev. Clint Nale officiating. There will be a time of visitation prior to the service on Monday from 10 AM – 12 PM. Interment will follow at Ullin Cemetery.
