Donald J. Reiman

Donald "Don" J. Reiman, 83, of Murphysboro , departed this world to be with the Lord at 12:14 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, in St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Murphysboro. Donald was born on Nov. 28, 1932, in Jackson County, Illinois, to Noah (Doc) Reiman and Ruby (Zimmerman) Reiman. Don joined the U.S. Navy to serve his country during the Korean War. On September 24, 1954, he married his sweetheart Alberta "Bertie" Herring and together they shared more than sixty-one years of marriage. Don worked for Tretter's Farm Equipment, Herring Farm Equipment, and then retired from the IC Railroad. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post # 7190 and the Paul Stout American Legion Post # 127. Mr. Reiman was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and considered all those attending there as family. Don loved and respected Pastor Hoem as if he was his own son. Don was always outside enjoying and working in his garden and loved to tinker around in his tool shed. He loved his Cardinal baseball team. He was interested in his family's activities from baseball, basketball, football, track, and dance. He tried to go to as many activities as he could. Family was always first in Don's eyes. He loved and cherished his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Bertie, three children J. D. Reiman and his wife Melissa Reiman, Rhonda Ice and her husband Kevin Ice and Tina Doane and her husband Arthur Doane; his six grandchildren Jessie Kranawetter and her husband Ben Kranawetter, Autumn Ice and her partner Thanh Tran, Jamie Reiman and her partner Will Caves, Aaron Ice and his wife Kari Ice, Anthony Ice and his wife Tiffiney Ice, and Landry Doane and her partner Alan Hoover; his nine great grandchildren Isaac, Haley, Mason, and Ethan Kranawetter, Savannah Ford and Airyana Caves, Rumi and Isla Tran, and Graylin Ice. He had a special bond with "each" of them. He always enjoyed his visits and outings with his brother Teddy Joe Reiman. Those memories with Don will now be cherished by all those that Don touched. His parents, six brothers Freeman, Noah, Harrison, Wayne, Glenn, and Kenneth Reiman, and two sisters Catherine Reiman and Wanda Adams preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at Immanuel Lutheran Church and burial will be at Murdale Gardens of Memory with military services conducted by the Paul Stout American Legion Post # 127. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Pettett Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
