IN MEMORY OF: Janet Lee Klump Serving Location: CRAIN PLEASANT GROVE-MURDALE FUNERAL HOME 31 Memorial Drive, Murphysboro, Illinois Janet Lee Klump, age 61, of Herrin, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026, accompanied by family and her beloved pooch, Harley. Janet was a fiery redhead born on May 7, 1964, to William Sr. and Lois (Chamness) Klump in Du Quoin, Illinois. She graduated from Elverado High School in 1982. She completed her associate degree in business administration at John A. Logan College and worked in accounting and billing for the office of Radiologist Dr. Murphy. Later, she worked for Thomason Transportation as an office manager and dispatcher. Smart and intensely funny, she developed long-lasting friendships with her co-workers over the years. Her outspoken and candid personality was unforgettable. As the embodiment of the “Cool Aunt,” she drove a blue T-top Firebird, rode jet skis, and could put away the Jim Beam in her younger days. Throughout her life, she had many adventures. She and her mom cheered for their favorite drivers at NASCAR races in Charlotte and Talladega. She had memorable road trips with her sister and niece. A few great memories include hiking Devil’s Tower, shopping at Marshall Fields in Chicago on Black Friday, and attending the Lantern Festival in St. Louis. Janet loved her family very much. Sunday get-togethers at her mom and dad’s home were some of her fondest memories. Anytime there was a celebration, she was excited to be the party planner. Later in life, she became a caregiver for her mother. She was a best friend to Shelly, her niece, who sought comfort and laughter in her unfiltered words. For Elliot, she loved him to the moon and back. Her too-soon passing leaves the broken-hearted behind; she will be incredibly missed as she was incredibly loved. Survivors include siblings Alice Mohr, William (Danielle) Klump, Jr., and Herl Klump; nieces and nephews, Shelly (Patrick) Tullis, Billy Klump, Trenton Klump, Crystal (Caleb) Keigley, and David Kennedy; and grand-nephew, Jaxson Kennedy. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Lois Klump, her sister-in-law, Patricia Klump, and her dearest buddy, grand-nephew Elliot Tullis. No services will be held at this time. The cremation of Janet Lee Klump will be personally handled by the staff of Crain Funeral Home. Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
