Juanita Christine (Hubbard) Dean

IN MEMORY OF: Juanita Christine (Hubbard) Dean Serving Location: CRAIN PLEASANT GROVE-MURDALE FUNERAL HOME 31 Memorial Drive, Murphysboro, Illinois Juanita Christine Hubbard was born on May 3, 1927 to parents John Riley Hubbard and Lura Beatrice (Frost) Hubbard of rural Carbondale, IL. Juanita attended school in Carbondale and after attending SIU began her teaching career. She taught in one room school houses at Carbondale, Desoto, and Du Quoin, IL. She married Ray Allan Dean on June 29, 1951 and moved to Granite City, Illinois where she continued her teaching career, often substituting as she was raising her family. Juanita was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Granite City where she taught Sunday school and helped with other activities. In 1977 Juanita and Ray retired and moved to Murphysboro Illinois to enjoy their retirement at the farm they had bought in 1957. Juanita enjoyed learning throughout her lifetime and was actively involved in her Home Extension group. She raised a big vegetable and flower garden every year and canned and preserved the fruits of her labor. She shared pickles, jams, vegetables and relishes with friends and relatives. Juanita was a loving mother, wife and grandmother. She was a wonderful caregiver to her husband Ray for 12 years after he lost his sight and had numerous strokes despite having cancer herself during this time. Juanita was a devout Christian who prayed daily for family and loved ones in need naming each person one by one. She instilled in her family to always remember who's child they are and to give thanks to God for his blessings and strength each day. Juanita attended Elm Street Baptist church on weekends they were at the farm in Murphysboro starting in 1959. She moved her membership there when they retired to Murphysboro in 1977, She ministered to people all her life thru meals delivered to the sick, phone calls to cheer and visiting the homebound. Juanita had a special card ministry sending thoughtful cards written to many who were enduring difficulties or celebrating life events. In return she received a bounty of cards from many people whose lives had been touched by her card ministry during her own times of illness. Juanita loved spending time with her family. The grandchildren and great grandchildren were a big part of her and Ray's life. She waited and was thrilled to meet her Great Great-Grandson, Maverick Allan and get a Five Generation picture taken with him. When Mom was able, nothing made her happier than cooking a huge meal from her garden and having her family gathered around the dinner table. If someone was ill, or homebound Juanita would make a feast for them to eat and share. Her Granddaughter Shannon got her an IPHONE and she learned to text at 96 years Old! It was a joy to get pictures and Facetime Calls from the Family. Juanita was loved by everyone who knew her. Juanita is survived by two daughters, Vicki (Royce) Morgan of Troy, IL and Elizabeth (Dave) Boucher of Murphysboro, IL; grandchildren, Chris Patterson(Kirsten Haimila) of Warrenton, MO, Gary (Jessica) Trimble and David (Debbie) Trimble of Murphysboro, IL, Shannon (Mike) Tippy of Palm Harbor, FL and Aubrey (Kevin)Harris of Granite City, IL, great-grandchildren, Tristin (Sarah) Trimble of Land O’ Lakes FL, Emma Tippy of Palm Harbor, FL, Chloe Patterson, Isabelle and Jocelyn Haimila of Warrenton, MO, Christian Kowalewski of CA, Aidan and Riley Harris of Granite City, IL. Laura, Evelyn, Elijah, Eleanor, Adeline and Lillian Trimble all of Murphysboro, IL; great great-grandson, Maverick Allan Trimble of Land O’ Lakes FL; niece, Anita Aldridge; nephew, Randy (Laura) Hubbard both of Carbondale, IL; along with many other very special friends and neighbors. Juanita is also survived by several of Rays family whom she held dear, Pat (Bill) Simmons,Sharon (Jerry) Fred, Linda Crites, Jay Galloway, Keith (Maggie) Galloway, Connie Piper, Cindie Dean, Lester Dierks, Brenda (Mike) Keller, Bruce (Jeanie)Dean, Bill (Dawn) Dean, Judith Galant and Phyllis Dean. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; infant son, John Allan Dean; her brother, James Hubbard; and nephew, Michael Hubbard of Carbondale, IL; many special sisters and brothers-in-law, Alma Hubbard, Ila Mae (Ralph) Galloway, Bill (Mae) Dean, Harold Dean, Curtis (Mary) Dean. Preceded also in death were several nieces and nephews, Jeffrey Galloway, Rex Aldridge, Alma Dierks, Leonard Dean and also many wonderful friends and neighbors. Juanita was an inspiration to all who knew her. There is "Heavenly Sunshine" today as another Saint has gone home. The family wishes to express, "Juanita, we love you and we miss you! " Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Crain Pleasant Grove – Murdale Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Allen and Gary Trimble, Jr. Officiating. Visitation will take place the day of service at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at alto Pass Cemetery at Alto Pass, Illinois. The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to WXAN Radio in Ava. Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
