IN MEMORY OF: Lynda Gail Homan Serving Location: CRAIN FUNERAL HOME – MURPHYSBORO 1421 Walnut Street, Murphysboro, Illinois Lynda Gail Homan, age 71, of Murphysboro, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born on December 20, 1953 to Loyd and Lois (Minton) Derossett in Murphysboro, Illinois. On June 15, 1974, she married Charles Homan and they have spent over 50 years together and he survives. Lynda was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a 1971 graduate of Murphysboro High School and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. In her career, she taught at Immanuel Lutheran School as well as Murphysboro Middle School and finally at Murphysboro High School where she retired from teaching English. Her hobbies were her family, Hosting holiday dinners and being involved in all of her grandchildren’s activities. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Melissa (Deryk) McDowell of St. Louis, MO and Megan (WJ) Pittman of Murphysboro, IL; grandchildren, Dylan McDowell, Brayden McDowell both of St. Louis, MO, Zoey Cox, Eli Pittman, and Gage Pittman all of Murphysboro IL; Lynda’s mother, Lois Derossett of Murphysboro, IL; three brothers, Dennis (Katie) Derossett of Lincoln, NE, Jeff Derossett of Pomona, IL, Doug (Leigh) Derossett of Houston, TX; two sisters, Lisa (Jim) Kirby of Murphysboro and Carla (Mike) McElroy of Mulkeytown, IL; sisters-in-law, Luella (David) McComb and Nita Barringer both of Murphysboro, IL; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Along with Her father, Loyd Derossett, she is preceded in death by her grandparents, Homer and Viola Minton and Loyd and Anna Derossett; niece, Lydia Derossett; Charlie’s parents, Daisy and Raymond Homan; and brother-in-law, Russell Barringer. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Crain Funeral Home, Downtown Murphysboro and on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Murphysboro with Rev. Matthew Christian officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to Immanuel Lutheran School.
