IN MEMORY OF: Robert Barry Moore Serving Location: CRAIN PLEASANT GROVE-MURDALE FUNERAL HOME 31 Memorial Drive, Murphysboro, Illinois Robert Barry Moore, 93, of Murphysboro, Illinois, passed away on August 17, 2026, at his home. Robert was born on November 4, 1932, in Murphysboro, Illinois, to Robert A. and Laura (Mileur) Moore. After serving two years in the United States Navy aboard the USS New Jersey, he returned to Murphysboro and began working for Dr. Pepper as a delivery driver. He married Shirley A. Smith on February 18, 1955. Together they had two children, Barry Thomas Moore and Sherrie Lea Moore Hesse. Robert retired from Farm Service Fuel Transport after 25 years of service. He also built, owned, and operated Country Village Trailer Court for 30 years while also caring for many of God’s creatures on the family farm until just months before his passing. Robert and Shirley shared more than 61 years of marriage before her passing on January 26, 2017. In later years, he reconnected with Mary (Hunziker Cripps) Moore, whom he had known since their teenage years, and they were blessed to share companionship and marriage. Robert and Mary attended United Faith Christian Church. Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Moore; his daughter, Sherrie (Don) Hesse of St. Louis, Missouri; his daughter-in-law, Karen Cottonaro Moore of Auburndale, Florida; his grandchildren, Sarah Moore (Alfonzo Mason) of Winona, Minnesota, Mallory (Aaron) McElwee of Auburndale, Florida, Trenton Moore of Brooklyn, New York, Hannah Neumeier of Alton, Illinois, and J. Samuel (Keelie) Neumeier of Festus, Missouri; and his greatgrandchildren, Bailey Mason, Bishop Mason, and Collin McElwee. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth E. Moore, as well as many nieces and nephews. Through his marriage to Mary, Robert was blessed with an extended family, including Deborah (Randy) Smith and Janet (Mike) Austin; their children, Mark (Kaela) King and Megan Austin; great-grandchildren, Christin King and Cameron King (Ashley Hine); and great-great-grandchildren, Laila King, Abigail Miles, Max King, Attikus King, and Eleanor King. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. and Laura Moore; his first wife, Shirley Moore; his son, Barry T. Moore; his sister, Roberta (Moore) Parmley; his brother-in-law, Norman Parmley; his brothers, Clarence “Bud” Moore and Fred Moore; his sisters-in-law, Mary Moore, Wilma Moore, and Rachel Moore; his niece, Carol (Moore) Imhoff; and Mary’s son, Cole Kelley. Robert leaves a legacy of love across both families, and his memory will be cherished for generations to come. The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Cheryl, Hayley, Matt, Chris, Jessica, and Lindy with Hospice of Southern Illinois for their care and support. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 11:00 AM with Michael Austin officiating and eulogies by Hannah Neumeier and Samuel Neumeier at Crain Pleasant Grove – Murdale Funeral Home. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM and the evening before on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Entombment with Military Honors will follow the service at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park Mausoleum. Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
