Longtime Cape Girardeau funeral home changes hands
On July 1, a well known family in funeral service in this
region will become owners of the 99 year old Lorberg
Memorial Funeral Chapel of Cape.
Crain Funeral Homes, in their 77th
year and 3rd generation of service in southern
Illinois, have purchased the Lorberg firm from the Kuss
family.
The spacious facility, located at 829
N. West End Blvd, 4 blocks north of Southeast Hospital, will
be known as Crain Funeral Home. Bryan A. Crain, a 22 year
licensed funeral director and embalmer, explains the move to
Cape Girardeau was their next natural step. “Not only do my
wife & I have family and friends in Cape, there are also
many, many longtime families served by Crains in southern
Illinois who have relocated to Cape over the past
generation. For many of those families, Crain is the only
funeral home to whom they have ever entrusted with their
loved one’s care.”
Bryan’s wife and co-owner, Stacey, is
excited about the many amenities that Crain’s can offer from
the Cape funeral home. “we will have the space available to
host large services, after funeral dinners, children’s play
area, pre-need workshops with luncheons, just to name a
few.”
Stacey Crain continued that “the Kuss’—Bill,
Betty, and Jim, have done an excellent job as trustee of the
pre-need plans made with the Lorberg firm. All pre-need
contracts and promises made by the Lorberg and Kuss owners
will be honored by Crain. Crain is licensed by the State of
Missouri as the successor provider of all the Lorberg
pre-need contracts.”
In addition to the Cape Girardeau
funeral home, Crain also has funeral homes, cemeteries, and
monument companies in Alexander, Pulaski, Union, Jackson,
and Williamson counties in Illinois. The firm originated in
1932 in Tamms and Pulaski, IL. Our mission statement sums

will offer funeral and cremation services, pre-need planning

custodian of the past funeral records of Lorberg as well as
Haman Funeral Home of Cape Girardeau.
